Peach Margaritas Two Ways

After living in Colorado off an on since 2011, I have an admission: I am a total baby when it comes to the summer. I used to brush off 105F like nothing, and now I crumple if the high is over 85F. Luckily, we have modern technology to make it through the summer. We have air conditioning to cool our outsides, and blenders to make peach margaritas to cool our insides.

While you can quickly make margaritas for a crowd with my favorite backyard recipe, when it comes to peaches I want the flavor to be as strong as possible. That means I prefer using fresh peaches whenever possible. After trial and error with other fruits (tough gig, testing margaritas) I developed two recipes. Read on for how to make peach margaritas on the rocks or frozen.

Tequila-Friendly Tips

While I can appreciate tequila-based cocktails of all stripes, when it comes to my own margs I like a more sour, less sweet palate that lets good tequila shine through. Both of these recipes make margaritas from scratch. If you like to feel like a potion master, then mixology is for you, and these are a great start. Here are some tips to make incredible margaritas:

  • Use the best tequila you can afford – Not only does it improve the flavor, it also improves the hangover.
  • Juice your own limes – The extra elbow grease is worth the fresh tasting flavor.
  • Agave is key – There are plenty of sweeteners out there, but agave syrup gives margaritas their authentic flavor.

Servings: 1
Calories: 225kcal

Equipment

  • Cocktail muddler
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Cocktail strainer
  • Spoon or cocktail stirrer
  • Lowball or rocks glass
  • Small plate

Ingredients

  • 2 oz gold tequila (divided)
  • 1 oz triple sec
  • 1 oz lime juice (about 1 lime)
  • ½ oz agave syrup
  • 1 slice peach (1/8 of a whole peach)
  • 2 tbsp tajin

Instructions

  • Sprinkle tajin in a circle on a small plate.
  • Juice 1 lime into a cocktail strainer. Run the pulpy part of the lime around the edge of the lowball glass to get it wet, then invert the glass and roll the edge in the tajin.
  • Add 1 oz of tequila and the peach slice to the bottom of your lowball glass. Muddle well until there are no large chunks of peach remaining, about 2-5 minutes depending on the juiciness of your peach.
  • Add the remaining ingredients to your cocktail shaker and add ice. Shake well.
  • Pour the cocktail through your strainer into the peach mixture. Stir well with a long-handled spoon and top with ice.
